Paper company Boise Inc. said late Nov. 17 that it will cut back production at a St. Helens, Ore., paper mill, eliminating 325 jobs.
"The decision was primarily a function of declining product demand coupled with continuing high costs, which made it impossible to meet the company's long-term financial objectives," Chief Executive Alexander Toeldte said in a statement.
The company said 300 of the jobs lost will be at the mill, with another 25 lost from related sales, marketing and logistics. Boise Inc. said it will continue to employ 170 workers at the St. Helens facility once the restructuring is complete by Jan. 16.
Boise Inc. consists of the packaging and newsprint businesses that Boise Cascade LLC spun off in early 2008. Both companies are based in Boise.
