U.S. Reps. Mike Simpson and Earl Blumenauer met with about 40 people in Boise, in part to generate local support for a House bill that would create a commission on America's 21st century infrastructure needs
Simpson, R-Idaho, and Blumenauer, D-Oregon, want to scrutinize transportation, water, energy, public lands, and housing infrastructure _ and how they should be developed in concert in coming years to create the most-efficient system
Blumenauer, known for his work on federal funding for Portland, Ore.'s mass transit system, said Thursday this latest bill would help meet ”twin challenges'' of staying globally competitive and conserving scarce resources
Simpson is a co-sponsor.
Their effort comes as Idaho Gov. C.L. ”Butch'' Otter is trying to raise an additional $240 million annually to address a state roads funding crunch.
