A series of three workshops offered be offered this fall by the Boise Valley Economic Partnership, the Idaho Department of Commerce and Idaho TechConnect, intended to help small, start-up or existing small business owners learn about the Small Business Innovation Research grant proposal process.

“We know the critical role funding has in properly developing innovative ideas, but many small business owners don’t realize that money is available in the federal Small Business Innovation and Research grant program,” said BVEP Executive Director Paul Hiller.

The SBIR program allocates almost $2.5 billion each year to small and start-up businesses (with fewer than 500 employees), and has given Idaho business almost $12 million over the past five years.

“We want Idaho business owners to know they’ve got a shot at up to $850,000 with this program,” said Rebecca Winston, BVEP’s program coordinator. “The grant process is very competitive so we teach small business owners how to put their best foot forward when applying for this funding option.”

The first workshop will be Sept. 5 at the CW Moore Plaza, and feature consultants Gail and Jim Greenwood of Greenwood Consulting Group. The Greenwoods will focus on creating an articulate grant application. Other workshops will be Oct. 28 and 29, with times and locations to be determined.

Cost to attend is $99 per person and advanced registration is required by calling (208) 472-5229.
