Concordia University of Portland has set up a Web site for its proposed law school, which includes the private Lutheran college’s rationale for opening a campus in Boise. Of course, there are the obvious reasons, like the fact the Treasure Valley is one of the four largest metropolitan areas in the United States with no law school within 100 miles.

Then, there’s the not so obvious, like the relationship that has developed between Concordia and Idaho through a history of Idaho farmers “providing food to our campus.”

Well, I’m not sure I see the connection between the food supply and legal education. Let’s just hope Concordia doesn’t get a reputation for producing a bunch of corn-fed lawyers. We could all do without that.

  1. Talk about the "Law of Unintended Consequences" ...visualize this: only state West of the Mississippi without home-rule gets 3 law schools (maybe 4?). Rural, GOP control-freak, wingnuts who resisted home-rule (HR) for decades, are confronted by newly minted dozens of lawyers now taking advantage of no HR...to micromanage and be intrusive, at level never before seen.

Think I'm joking? it happens in North Carolina, with 7 law schools (going on 9), no HR, and a legislature that (has to!) stay in session nearly year-round for the centralized control of 100 counties, nearly 10,000 incorporated municipalities, and 9 million people.

  2. Not sure who the "GOP control-freak, wingnuts" are who will be "confronted," but it's a good thing they are irrelevant.

Our legislature of elected representatives will be able to address this issue - if need be, should the new law school(s) change the environment.

  3. Great news – its going to happen sometime, so why not Concordia. A College with an outstanding history & the credentials to promote maybe the kind of honesty needed maybe lacking in todays society.
