The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality recently extended the comment deadline involving J.R. Simplot Co.’s application for a permit at its “Don” plant in Pocatello.
Department officials said in a release that the draft modified “air quality permit to construct” would remove the throughput limit at Simplot’s No. 300 sulfuric acid plant near the intersection of Interstate 15 and Idaho 30. Although it is anticipated that emissions will increase, the department’s analysis shows that the modifications will not result in a violation of air quality standards or have an unreasonable impact on human or animal life or vegetation, the release said.
The department plans an informational meeting at 6 p.m. May 21 and a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. May 21 at Pocatello City Hall.
Comments are due June 10. People may direct written comments to Faye Weber, Air Quality Division, Idaho Department of Environmental Quality State Office, 1410 N. Hilton St., Boise, Idaho 83706. Or, e-mail faye.weber@deq.idaho.gov.
