Today the mayor kicked off Boise’s Green Week with an announcement at the Grove. “We talk a lot about making Boise and keeping it the most livable city in the country, but we can’t be livable if our planet is not,” Mayor David Bieter said. Green Week will run May 9-May 18 and will include a green film festival, a tour of green homes and buildings and Commuteride’s annual Alternative Transportation Celebration. The week will culminate with the Idaho Green Expo on May 17 and 18 at the Boise Center on the Grove.

Bieter said people in the community have done some neat things to help green Boise. “There’s nothing like people taking the initiative and pulling everyone else along with them,” he said in his speech. “That’s what this is all about.”

Seats for the tour of green homes and buildings are still available. Email info@greenfoundations.com to reserve a seat on the 4-hour bus tour.

  1. Gmme a break...when will Bieter actually show some leadership and, make Boise environmentally friendly? We're the only City of our size in America without a mandatory recycling program. The City itself has hardly converted to green energy or products and, has no meaningful, groundbreaking policies to promote environmentally-friendly living. The talk is there, with green being the buzzword; but, the actions are second-rate and behind any other forward-thinking municipalities in the US.

  2. I agree about the lack of recycling. Boise should negotiate with Allied Waste to pick up recycleables in one container. Most cities have single stream recycling. The current seggregated system is a big turn off for most people.
