A Senate committee this morning approved a constitutional amendment for local option taxes, while a House committee delayed a vote on legislation that would give cities and counties the authority to spend that money on local projects, like public transit. Rep. Dennis Lake, chairman of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee, cut short testimony on the legislation this morning, saying there hadn’t been time to print the bill since the legislation was introduced the day before.

A short while later, the Senate State Affairs Committee voted to approve a constitutional amendment for local option taxation. The amendment now awaits approval from the full Senate.
