  • The Federal Economic Development Administration has approved a nearly $2 million grant to help build an industrial park at the Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport. The grant is the final piece of a $3.2 million package of grants, donations and other financing put together by the Clearwater Economic Development Association, according to the Associated Press. Lewiston City Manager John Krauss says the grant is wonderful news for the region.
  • Idaho Power will use a requested rate increase to help pay for $57.7 million plant construction and $7.3 million additional transmission and interconnection expenses to connect the new plant to the grid. The plant is basically needed to meet the growing demand. Total transmission expense is anticipated to be $26.8 million, but due to delays in construction, Idaho Power is asking to recover $7.33 million now and to recover the remaining cost in a subsequent application with the Idaho Public Utilities Commission. Idaho Power seeks to recover from customers $64.9 million in expenses for the 170-megawatt plant, which is scheduled to be in commercial operation by June 1.
