Micron officials told employees this morning it will build a new, wholly-owned 300 mm production facility in Boise.

Micron President and COO Mark Durcan made the announcement at a press conference this afternoon to expand on details of a joint-venture agreement between Micron and Nanya Technology.

Durcan said he did not know the exact the date when the facility would be constructed, but that  the decision depends on the marketplace. He said Boise’s proximity to Micron’s research and development base was key to the company’s decision to building here.

A joint venture with Nanya would likely be operated in Taiwan, and won't affect Micron's decision about when to build a new fab in Boise.

  3. Sounds like a dangling carrot. When is this suppose to happen? It depends on the marketplace. Oh, I see.
