Absorption of retail space in the Treasure Valley hit an all-time high of more than 1 million square feet last year, according to a January report from Thornton Oliver Keller Commercial Real Estate. Vacancy increased in 2007 compared to 2006 despite the record absorption, due to a large volume of commercial construction.

It was the same story with office space, with vacancy increasing to 12 percent despite absorption that surpassed 2006 levels.
