Hispanic entrepreneurial businesses need more information as they open in Nampa, mayor Tom Dale told business owners and development officials.
“Maybe we need to require a business license program in the city,” said Dale, relating the point that the city currently doesn’t require a business license to open shop. “Maybe, we require a permit and at the same time we ask them about their business, whether they have a business plan, an outlook or a need for financing, and at that point we give them the information that is available.”
The discussion was part of the Nampa Mayor's Hispanic Business Owners and Professionals Forum where more than 30 community and business leaders were present.
Dale called on several different community leaders asking them to discuss information on new business organization and entrepreneurship were available in the community. Each told of how they had plenty of information, but the traffic in the office was low.
New business owner Lee Ortivez, of Salon Che in Nampa, said it’s a trust and a comfort level issue. There needs to be a level between the bureaucrats and the Hispanic community to allow them to come in for the information without feeling pressured.
“I have people talking to me all the time about how I got in my business and how they wanted to open a business,” he said. “I’m always handing out information.”
