Sunvalleyonline.com is reporting that the cost of living in Idaho is steadily rising nearly at four times the increase in wages in the Gem State, according to a new report that looks at what kind of money families need to cover basic expenses. Study author Gerald Smith with the Federation says health care is the biggest driver in Idaho's cost-of-living increases. "This is one of the things that employers are having to do as they see health care costs go up," Smith said. "It means the employees have higher co-pays, they're shifting more of the premiums to the employees."
Smith said the rising cost of housing is another factor that has bumped up the cost of living in Idaho, particularly in resorts such as Tamarack and Sun Valley. Smith examined rental prices and said a closer look at homeowners would likely show those families need to earn even more to make ends meet.
