IBR announces Health Care Heroes for 2007

Honorees to be feted at Sept. 20 event

Idaho Business Review representatives have announced the 24 winners of the newspaper’s 2007 Health Care Heroes.

The IBR names three winners in each of eight categories including Advancements; Community Outreach; Educator; Emergency, Fire and Rescue; Health Care Professional; Nurse; Physician; and Volunteer.

The 2007 winners, by category, are:
Advancements: Ada County Paramedics; MyRegence.com; and St. Alphonsus West Valley Heath Care Alliance.
Community Outreach: Delta Dental Community Outreach Program; Bill Isley; and Mercy Medical Center.
Emergency, Fire and Rescue: John Blake; Dominick Merrell; and Karen Powers (deceased).
Health Care Professional: Honey Goodman; Debbie Lenington; and Colleen “Casey” Meza.
Nurse: Vicki Allen; Sherry Iverson; and Carol Trana.
Physician: Larry Dewey; John Hanks; and Brenda Williams.
Volunteer: Joan and Don Fothergill; Maurice Masar; and Janie Nirk.

Educator: Jim Girvan, Boise State University; Pamela Powell, Idaho  State University; and Catherine Prinzig, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.
Sponsors of the Idaho Business Review 2007 Health Care Heroes include Regence BlueShield of Idaho; Idaho State University; the Idaho Hospital Association; the Idaho Medical Association, the Idaho Alliance of Leaders in Nursing; and the Medical Group Management Association.
In addition to honoring all 24 recipients, the Idaho Business Review also awards a top award in each of the eight categories.
Nominations were received by the newspaper, which turned them over to a panel of judges that included health care professionals.
Each judge individually ranked each nomination and the top three rankings in each category are awarded the Health Care Hero award.
All 24 winners will be honored at a reception starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, at the DoubleTree Riverside in Boise. The dinner and awards presentation follows the reception at 7 p.m.
